Road and Bridge Director

Routt County Road and Bridge Director: Hiring Range $97,552 to $111,322 annually with an excellent benefit package.

Routt County is seeking an experienced and engaged leader to serve as its next Road and Bridge Director. The ideal candidate will be a team player who offers substantial engineering background and capital improvement project experience. The ideal candidate will also be a visible and engaged professional who maintains a strong connection with his/her team. The individual selected must also be a superior communicator and relationship builder. Five years of progressively responsible experience in road and bridge engineering and administration with at least five years of supervisory experience.

The Director is responsible for management and leadership of the Road and Bridge (R&B) and Noxious Weed service programs. The Director manages the physical road and bridge infrastructure including both short and long-term planning for capital improvement and replacement as well as selection and management of engineering design consultants, annual operations, maintenance and repair of all R&B infrastructure and equipment. The next Director will also implement a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) which is a County priority.

The successful candidate will prepare and manage the annual budget request for the R&B Operations, Noxious Weeds, Heavy Equipment and Motor Pool Programs including snow plowing, maintenance of asphalt and gravel roads, vehicle and equipment replacement, capital improvement projects and control of noxious weeds and ensures compliance with the capital and controllable asset policies. Ongoing projects include management of chip and seal, bridge repair and maintenance, road overlays and improvements and contract administration.

Routt County is home to about 24,000 residents living in either the unincorporated County or one of four incorporated communities including Steamboat Springs (County seat), Hayden, Oak Creek and Yampa. Residents enjoy diverse year-round recreation including world-class skiing, hiking, camping and fishing. The County consists of approximately 2,400 square miles of land with approximately 900 miles of roads that the R&B Department is responsible for maintaining. The Department balances seasonal road maintenance and snow removal activities and work is divided among three regional shops located in Steamboat Springs, Hayden and Oak Creek.

Applicants must have a college degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, plus three years of work related training, five years of experience in highway construction and maintenance, five years of supervisory experience and three years of high level administrative experience, or a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
