The City of Rochester, Minnesota (pop. 112,225) is seeking a City Administrator. Minnesota’s 3rd largest city is home to the world-renowned Mayo Clinic and future Destination Medical Center, which is projected to increase city population to over 160,000 in the next 20 years. Position is open due to the announced retirement of the incumbent administrator who has served in the position for 38 years. The City Administrator provides strategic leadership, direction and coordination for overall City operations, carries out City Council policies, and oversees a $236.5 million budget and an 850-member staff. The position reports to the Mayor and seven-member City Council, supervises eight department heads and an assistant city administrator, and works in cooperation with department heads who report to an independent board.
Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in government and /or business and ten years of progressive leadership experience in a municipal or municipally-related governmental administrative capacity. A Master’s degree in public administration, or a closely related field, is desired. Familiarity with general and large-scale developments, long-range operational and capital forecasting, budgeting and long-range financial planning; and leading organizational change are preferred.
Salary range is $152,852 to $218,360; compensation paid above $173,355 is in the form of deferred vacation pay which is received when the employee leaves employment in compliance with the Minnesota statutory salary cap. Competitive benefits and a relocation package are available.
