The Medford City Council next Thursday (May 17, 2012) will consider approving an agreement with Eric Swanson, currently City Manager of Roseburg, Oregon, as the new City Manager of Medford. If approved, Mr. Swanson will join the staff of the City on June 18.
After the retirement of the previous City Manager, Michael Dyal, the City Council engaged the recruiting firm, Waldron, to conduct the recruitment efforts for the next City Manager. After several months of recruitment and interviews of numerous applicants, Mr. Swanson was identified as the top candidate.
Mr. Swanson has been City Manager of Roseburg since March 2005. His experience includes serving as the City Manager in Yankton, South Dakota, and Town Manager in Hillborough, North Carolina and Southwest Harbor, Maine. He has had more than 25 years of experience as the chief administrator in those four jurisdictions.
Mr. Swanson has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of South Dakota. He also is Colonel in the Oregon Air National Guard and serves as the Commander of the 173rd Medical Group Commander in Klamath Falls. He is a member of the International City-County Management Association and the Oregon City and County Management Association, and is a past president of the Roseburg Rotary Club.
