The City of Lake Oswego, a city of 37,000 south of Portland, has two openings that they want to share with all ELGL members. The internship and analyst position below are great opportunities to work in local government and work for an experienced City Manager.
Management & Program Analyst
The Position: The Management and Program Analyst provides moderately difficult to complex analytical services across organizational boundaries. Maintains software applications, including but not limited to planning, purchasing and administering systems. Coordinates department computer systems and business processes to provide citywide information in the most efficient, cost effective method. Acts as the main functional contact point for technology issues with the City’s IT Department. Supports users, coordinates with vendors, and makes appropriate modifications to support business needs. This position will report to the Support Services Supervisor within the Operations Division of the Public Works Department.
Requirements: Broad knowledge of business principals, practices, theories and methods, relational database design, structure, operating principles and characteristics, data processing systems, PC applications software, and business processes. Prior working experience with Hansen/Infor Public Sector software and/or SQL Server is desirable. Over two years of experience in a related field, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties. A four-year university education in a computer science, Business Administration, or Public Administration, or related field is a plus.
Salary: $4,868.93 – $6,212.27 Monthly

Management & Planning Intern
The Position: The primary job duty will be to assist the Director of Planning & Development in reviewing and updating its systems and processes for permitting. While much of the work will be analytical in nature, it will give the intern working knowledge of a variety of development and management issues faced by a local government. Lake Oswego deals with a wide range of development-related projects and issues, including urban renewal, infill and redevelopment, and new development, with active neighborhood associations and extensive public involvement. The intern will also gain exposure to the Planning Commission, Development Review Commission and City Council on development-related issues. The City’s primary purpose in creating this internship is to assist with research and free up time of the professional planning staff to devote to improving the development review process.
Requirements: The successful candidate will have bachelor’s degree and will be pursuing a graduate degree in urban and regional planning, public administration or a related field.
