The cities of West Linn and Sherwood, Oregon are hiring for a unique position. They are looking for an Economic Development Intern that will work part-time in both cities. This shared position is a great opportunity for an MPA Student or recent graduate.

Sherwood Oregon librarySherwood: The City of Sherwood is a city of 16,115 to the southwest of Portland, Oregon. Located near open spaces and rural areas this town really strikes a balance between urban and rural.  Sherwood has a council-manager form of government and ELGL supporter Joe Gall is the City Manager.

west linn sealWest Linn: The City of West Linn is located on the Willamette and Tualatin Rivers to the south of Portland. West Linn has a population of 25,425 and is also a council-manager form of government. ELGL supporter and one of the longest tenured city managers in the state, Chris Jordan, is the City Manager.

The Position: The City of Sherwood and the City of West Linn jointly offer an exciting internship program for a Public Administration graduate student or recent graduate interested in a public service career. west-linn-oregon-city-bridgeThis unique “shared internship” arrangement will allow the intern to work and learn from two different cities. Under general supervision, this full-time position will perform entry level professional work for a variety of departments, to include: Administration, Community Development, and Economic Development. The intern will participate in a range of projects contributing to the continued success of various organization-wide initiatives. Duties and responsibilities are related to the emerging issues of the day in each city and are designed to further prepare the intern for a successful career in local government. The maximum internship length is six months, or 1,040 hours. Pay is $16.00 an hour.


Requirements: This position requires excellent oral, written, and electronic communications skills. General knowledge of municipal governments. Advanced knowledge of computer software programs that support this level of work, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet, presentation graphics, social media, and web page editing.
