Updated (12/6): Decking the Halls at Randall Children’s Hospital (Pics)

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and money to spread Christmas cheer at the Randall Children’s Hospital. ELGL raised more than $500 dollars which was enough to buy a wide assortment of decorations including a Christmas tree, ornaments, stockings, teddy bears, etc.

Special thanks to Jim Kirk, Kirsten Wyatt, Marissa Daniels, and Megan Messmer who provided the labor yesterday in decorating the hospital.

To see how your contributions were put to good use, you can view pictures at Spreading Holiday Cheer at Randall Children’s Hospital.

As you’d imagine the doctors and nurses were grateful for your kindness in donating money to brighten the days of the children who are spending time with them during the holiday season. ELGL received the following notes after our visit:

Nurse Ashley:

Thank you so much for helping us out this holiday season. Everyone keeps commenting on how beautiful the unit looks. It is going to make the holiday season brighter for those families that have to be here this month. Thanks again!

ALLA VARIVODA:

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! A touch of holiday spirit is just what the Dr. ordered:)
Alla

Mom on the 3 B’s:

Thank you so much for your time and financial assistants. It is organizations like yours that go a little beyond their scope and touch some amazing lives. From a family who was on the ONC ward in 2007 during the Christmas season – thank you!!!!!!!

It was brought to the Emerging Local Government Leaders Network’s attention that the Randall Children’s Hospital Pediatric Oncology Floor needs some extra help this holiday season.

When the unit moved to the new hospital, *all* of their holiday decorations were lost or misplaced.  The floor is bare heading into this holiday season, with young kids scheduled for long hospital stays over the holidays.

There are two ways that you can help:

  • If you are interested in decorating on WEDNESDAY at 2:00 p.m. please email Megan Messmer, ELGL Project Manager, oregonelgl@gmail.com.
  • If you can’t find time in your schedule to help out, please consider donating specifically to help us defer the costs of buying some decorations for the three nurses stations and making them festive for the kids. Email with your donation contribution and we’ll send you a PayPal request as follow-up.

While we realize that this volunteer opportunity is outside of the direct scope of ELGL, we also know that the holiday season brings about the values of community service and outreach that we all hold close to our hearts.  Please consider helping us – either in person or in kind – with this important need this holiday season.
